Jordanian evangelical groups are positioning to meet humanitarian needs in Iraq. Based on previous relief ministry during and since the Gulf War, leaders from JECRaD (Jordanian Evangelical Committee for Relief and Development) anticipate serving Iraqi refugees in camps on either side of the Iraq-Jordan border, assisting refugees in Amman and other urban centers, and helping rebuild Iraq.
During the Gulf War, JECRaD fed 5,000 refugees on a daily basis for 10 months and provided shelter for hundreds within churches in Amman. With financial assistance from churches and individuals outside Jordan, JECRaD also developed a micro-enterprise program to help minister to long-term needs.
Started in 1990 during the Gulf War, Jordanian believers formed JECRaD, pooling their resources to create a more unified and effective response to humanitarian needs. Today JECRaD is a group of 12 churches and parachurch agencies, including Manara Ministries, Campus Crusade for Christ, Evangelical Free Church of Jordan and Assemblies of God.
JECRaD strives to carry out Christ’s ministry commands: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in…” (Mt. 25:35-36).
JECRaD seeks to partner with other organizations and invidivuals. For more information, e-mail: [email protected]
