Leader: We acknowledge, O God, that you are our wise, loving and mighty sovereign.
People: May we live in the coming year so as to confess your sovereignty in all that we do.
Leader: Thank you that you have spoken to us in your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who came to redeem us from our sins and to purify us as his unique people.
People: Our desire is to live and witness in Christ’s resurrection power, to the end that his name shall be known in all the earth.
Leader: We praise you for the gift of your Holy Spirit to guide, correct and empower your church.
People: We ask you to give us higher spiritual aspirations in the coming year, so that we might be filled with the Spirit’s power, love and holiness.
Leader: Our Father, you are holy, just and true.
People: We confess our sins and claim forgiveness through Christ’s shed blood. We ask for new zeal to be better people, to excel in moral virtues, in worship and in worldwide witness for Jesus’ sake.
Leader: Thank you, heavenly Father, for placing us in Christ’s body, the church.
People: We ask for purity and unity in our churches. We pray for your protection from Satan’s attacks. Keep us firm in our faith in the coming year. Keep us in persevering prayer. Leader: The gospel tells us that nothing can separate us from your love. People: When we hit tough times, O Lord, overwhelm us with the saving, sustaining power of your love.
Leader: We are grateful for those who have followed Christ into missionary service in all points of the globe.
People: We pray that the coming year will bring them peace in the midst of turmoil, power in the face of opposition and love and unity in the face of conflict.
Leader: Your church, Lord Jesus, includes people from a wonderful variety of cultures and nationalities.
People: May we exercise more intercession, care and financial investment around the world, to show our love and solidarity with those who name your name, wherever they may be.
Leader: O God, we confess that you reign supremely in a world torn by war, hunger, homelessness and exploitation.
People: We pray for your mercy for your suffering people, to bring hope and wholeness to those who hurt so much.
Leader: You have told us to seek your kingdom first and to confess your name before all people.
People: Strip us of all false ambitions and misguided hopes, we pray. Give us courage to be true to you in our communities before all those who have not yet come to confess Christ as savior and Lord.
Leader: We face the new year with considerable trepidation, but our hope is in you.
People: Come soon, Lord Jesus. May this be the year when you claim your rightful throne and restore peace and righteousness to our world. May your love fill us, as the waters fill the seas.
